Dragon in The Last Ninja

If anyone knows how to pass the dragon in The Last Ninja, then please, let me know. My friends & I have tried to throw some sort of round smoke bomb weapon with little success. Maybe we're throwing it at the wrong spot. Anyway, we can't pass it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
