 Re: Detection rutines

I use to peek one byte in the drive ROM in order to detect which drive model is connected. I've to read the BAL-SYS source to remember what address and values.

 Detection rutines

Guys, I thought it might be fun to bring this up for discussion. What are the most elegant and/or simple ways of detecting various hardware? C64 or a Plussy (or a VIC-20?) 16kb, 32kb, 64kb, 256kb, C16 or plus/4, 3-plus-1 installed or not. SID-card (which type), 1541, 1551... We could have some of these done in BASIC, and some in assembly.

Also, just in terms of recording this. I've been thinking about it, and I think the best place would be the Encyclopedia. Any thoughts?
