Re: Very sad news: we mourn the passing...

I received the report of his death from Erich's wife on November 30th. I had been in conversation over the phone with Erich and his family for years, and I didn't always agree with him. On the same evening I passed the report on to Csabo, who then published the news here.

Also attached is a picture of his wife, where you can see Erich live at work and only a small part of his archive (that's what he liked to call it himself). The truth is, there will probably be a lot more in his study.

I also discussed with his wife that his material would be saved somehow, but that won't happen until 2021. Anyone in German-speaking countries who would like to offer their help in this regard can write to me personally.

We, today's Plus/4 scene, will only notice later what work Erich has done and what will be missing in the future. Rest in peace.

I think the Plus4 scene owes a lot to him. He continued supporting Plus4 users by sending floppies to people who (in his own words) don't own any PCs or Internet.
That aside from the sheer amount of software and images he has created.
Thanks Erich, we'll miss you.

Dear Erich,
Thank you for your dedication and the great efforts you put into the Plus/4 Club Info (we could count in almost every season). We really enjoyed reading them.

Rest in Peace, Erich.

Daley Thompson's Star Events +2FG! commemorates Erich, remember him when some tiny simple things of life allow to do that, is the only way I've found

This is so sad!
I really appreciated Erichs hard work on all the Plus/4 Club Info issues...

---

Here is an article online about Erichs life as being a teacher and his work as an advocate for nature, the environment and social issues.
(german): https://www.bo.de/lokales/achern-oberkirch/erich-laber-fuersprecher-fuer-natur-umwelt-und-soziales

(english translation):
Erich Laber: advocate for nature, the environment and social issues

October 16, 2020

Waldulm has lost a committed teacher and local council, Erich Laber died on October 1st at the age of 68. He was an educator with heart and soul and a local politician with heart and mind.

For almost 30 years, from 1983 to 2011, he taught at the Antonius School in Oberachern, the last years of his professional life he was a teacher at the Black Forest School in Appenweier from 2011 to 2015. He knew how to inspire his students and taught them to look carefully. This is especially true when it comes to the importance and worthiness of life and nature.

As an MNT teacher, he recently took part with his students in the German Hiking Association's school hiking competition, hiked several times with his fifth grade in the Appenweir forest and set up a forest classroom with a colleague and her fifth.

Focus on chemistry

Chemistry was his great passion. At the Antonius School in Oberachern he played a key role in equipping the school in chemistry, and wrote the textbook "Stations of chemistry - imparting specialist knowledge appropriate to age" for chemistry lessons in grades 7 to 8. He recently said at the event “Expedition N - Sustainability in Baden-Württemberg” at the Black Forest School: “It is important that mankind comes up with something. In 2050 there could be 200 million climate refugees, over three quarters of the fishing grounds are exhausted or in critical condition, the species are dying faster. 40 percent of the arable land is damaged and 20 percent of the world's population use 80 percent of the resources. "

At IG Funkmast

So it is not surprising that as a local councilor in Kappelrodeck and as a local councilor in Waldulm, he was also repeatedly an advocate for nature, the environment and social issues. In Kappelrodeck he worked for the SPD in the local council, in the Waldulm local council from 2009 to 2019. He was involved in the IG Funkmast Ortenau and warned of the risks of the completely unregulated use of mobile phone radiation. The fact that a replacement spawning area for toads is now being set up between Waldulm and Oberachern, he would certainly have enjoyed it, because he urged the council several times.

Erich Laber had a clear opinion, always well founded from a technical point of view and without any self-interest or personal profiling. His engagement has consistently been of good intent and driven by the good of the community and nature.

Oh my.. I didn't recognize the full impact he had on the scene but he surely is one of the most frequent releasing residends I know here in this forum. After reading that he is a teacher and nature lover I real feel that a gifted person has left this world.. I hope he finds his comrades beyond the curtain and that he accomplished his mission here on earth.. May he rest in peace..

Sad news indeed... I knew him only from the Club Info mag, but from what I've read, he was a very nice person, good teacher and a nature lover. May his soul rest in peace.

Re: Very sad news: we mourn the passing...

I'm still reeling from this news as well. Hard to believe.

The last email I got from Erich is just a few weeks before his passing, 2020-09-17, with CI159.

Obituary (in German): https://www.bo.de/lokales/achern-oberkirch/erich-laber-fuersprecher-fuer-natur-umwelt-und-soziales

According to our database, Erich had the most releases ever, with 375 releases under his name. To put that in perspective, the person with the 2nd most releases is KiCHY, with 160 releases.

Re: Very sad news: we mourn the passing...

This news has just shocked me: Erich was relatively young (68), he was preparing the articles for the 160th issue of Club Info, and – maybe it's just my imaginary buildup of the events, but – this make me wonder that this tragedy was somewhat unexpected. The articles found online about his passing away allowed me to meet Erich as a naturalist, pedagogue, and above all a chemist just like me; a respectable and loved professional.

At the moment, I can't believe I'll never again be surprised to see a new issue of the magazine he has been running all these years. Rest in peace, brother.
