It's very easy to connect any Centronics printer directly to +4 user port. I connected my +4 to printer with self-made cable. See my site litwr.boom.ru/eng.html +4 emulator 'info' section fo details. I had no problem to print texts from 3+1 Editor or Basic and 320x200 bw graphics (160x200 mc graphics was not supported).

Here's a printer adapter that uses the serial and cassette ports: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3059806178&category=3544
Here's one that uses the user port: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3441223445&category=1246
Just for novelty, here's a Commodore color printer in Australia: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3059796072&category=3543
...which is the same as this printer sold in the States: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2766700489&category=4193

Not to my knowledge. 3+1 presumes that you're interfacing through the serial port. Script/Plus can be told to print to other types of printers though, maybe one of those will go through the user port.
By the time the Plus/4 came about, many printer manufacturers were supporting interfacing through the serial port... it was not difficult to find a Star or Okidata or other non-Commodore printer that used the serial port.
If you're wondering about the demand for printing to the user port for a program you're writing, I've already asked Csabo to poll users here. Of the approx 45% that actually own a printer, very few have a non-Commodore printer to start with, let alone one that goes through the user port. (Csabo, is there a way to view old polls?)

Is there any software available which supports Centronics printers through such an adapter?

Here in the States, printer adapters were available to allow Centronics-type printers to hook up to the Commodore user port. Most had a switch that you could flip if you were on a Plus/4. However they usually pulled their power from the cassette port.

The only one I know of that connects to the user port is the Geocable, which was designed to run on C64 GEOS. I don't know if the Plus4 version of GEOS supports it.

Does anyone know, whether there was any printer or hardware modifications/software available for the plus4 which were able to use a printer connected to the user port like Centronics printers?
