 Re: Backup programm

@gerliczer: Sorry for my fault. I didn't understand what you meant at first. Now I see that it's a program. I'll try it out later. Thanks for that.

@Haegar: It feels quite silly to repeat myself, but ...... Double Hack'em?

 Re: Backup programm

Those two I've linked seem to be able to do that, but they are file-based, as far as I can understand.

I think XU1541 is much slower than XUM1541 (i.e.: ZoomFloppy). The latter takes a minute per disk or so IIRC. It's even faster with 1571 drives or with a 1541 + parallel connection.

 Re: Backup programm

I was hoping there would be something like Fast-Backup 1551 for the 1541/51 where you can choose the source and destination drive, as is the case in many file copy programs.
I also have a XU1541, and it works with that too, but it's sloooooow and very error-prone.

 Re: Backup programm

I'm pretty sure I did that in the past but I can't remember what I used. Maybe this? Or this?

May I ask why is it difficult to copy a disk one sector at a time? We have functions that can read a write a certain sector, don't we?

Anyway, the easiest option would be to use a 1541 with a ZoomFloppy. I can send you a PCB for that if you can buy and solder the components.

 Re: Backup programm

Just for your information, I want to copy a D64 file from my PI1541 (drive 9) to a diskette (drive 8). If there is no corresponding program on the Plus/4, does anyone know one on the C64?

 Re: Backup programm

@siz: Yes, I missed that. This is - as far as I know - only a prototype, and little is known about the hardware. And it certainly looks like it, this is not the old, classic double drive. It's more like two separate drives mounted in just one enclosure. For this reason, I don't know how the classic BACKUP / COPY commands can work, at best, with some ugly hack. grin

But the point is: with two pieces of drives, the BACKUP command will not work, this is not the right answer to Haegar's question happy

 Re: Backup programm

@BSZ: In fact there was a Commodore serial dual drive: the 1572. But unlike the IEEE-488 ones it practically contains two 1571 drives with different device numbers instead of a single device number and separate drive numbers. I think it was only a prototype but Joe Forster/STA (the author of Star Commander) has one.

 Re: Backup programm

The BACKUP command is very, very obsolote. Only works with a dual disk drive. (But it is also described in the link above.) It's funny, but CBM didn't even make such a drive for the serial bus. (And nor for the TCBM bus.) Only third-parties have made such a drive, but I have only seen a picture of these.

But the point is: with two drives connected to the machine, this command will not work.

Would BACKUP command do the trick?

 Backup programm

Hello,

I'm looking for a backup program to copy disks from drive #9 to drive #8. Most of the programs I've found are from #8 to #8.
