 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

Heh, no no - from PL, and based here.

Well, if I'd go to the Arok for example, I'd rather take the C116 after all.
Unless it's dangerously to take hardware there? I don't want it to get destroyed, heh.

______________EDIT_____________
Another photo from Fortification - 264 demos were also presented all the time, not only on a bigscreen -

You say your from Poland but are you living in the UK now as I see a 3pin plug? wink

If the motherboard is all intact, working and good condition then enjoy! These C16 machines are great work horses and should be used when messing about with 16k stuff. Save for C116 and Plus/4 for the big stuff only. Your get more miles out of all your machines that way! happy

I bought it today. wink

So at the moment I have ALL the 264 series!!!!!! HAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! wink

______EDIT_______
So I took my C116 64K to the Atari XL party (Fortification 2013) and I made some show of the best demos. :)
Here is some small proof of that

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

In my case, in Zenith of Puberty, first some character-garbage apears and short after it freezes. This happens usually 5-15 seg. after the beginning. But only 10-20% of times, ussually it works OK.

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

Hi,

it gets dead exactly in this moment:
http://youtu.be/9bmrvdyBync?t=1m28s
every time. And also - every time in a slightly different way.
Actually - exactly like the "Shade" and its 'dancing bloke'.
So first - a mess/garbage starts. Then - it's dead.
For more details I'd have to watch it again.
I was saving the demo several times into various diskettes. Still the same.
And - it works on Plus/4 fine.

Maybe those 64Kb internal extensions are not so perfect after all?

But still, it would be great to have those 2 demos 'hacked' for the C116 64K. If it's even possible.

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

I remember someone also said Zenith of Puberty doesn't work on his 64kb-machine. This is quite odd since the demo is a one-filer and doesn't make use of rom-calls or the floppy drive.

@YERZMYEY: When you say it stops, does it just freeze (including the sound) or is there anything visible on the screen!?

Another program that doesn't work, is "Perfect Visions" demo but actually it doesn't work on Plus/4 neither (with 1541 II, I mean).

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

There are a couple of revisions of the C16 also. Wonder if it's memory related, if I remember correctly some 64K ram packs don't run on all C16's either for various reasons. Pin Point crashes as it starts on level 2, even with 32K on a C16. The game does not crash here on a Plus/4!

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

Wow, this is realy intriguing! I mean there should not be any difference at all other than the RS232 ('cause it seems that it's not the drive after all). There are a couple of demos (especially their packers) that are somewhat picky on what they find at the $FDxx area, though.

Or maybe that the chrystal oscillator is clocked slightly differently on a C16? There is some deviation in the real world clock frequencies of different machines.

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

Some time ago I tried to run Shade on my C16 (with internal 64kb expansion) and a 1541-II (Chinon) and it freezes when the boy is dancing.

I've tried it today with a 1541 (ALPS, long board) 2 times, with different disks. First time it freezes also when the boy is dancing and the second time when the girl is dancing aprox 30 sec after the begining.

Zenith of Puberty works OK most of the times (with the 1541-II).

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

OK guys, like I promised, I took out my beloved Plus/4 from the closet.

I confirm that "Shade" and "Zenith of puberty" don't work on C=116 64K,

and they work normally on C=Plus/4. With the same drive (1541 II) and the same cable (about 50 cm? Less?).

"Shade" mostly stops when the bloke dances.
"Zenith of puberty" usually stops when the second "twirl" tries to appear.

Hm. A pity. A really love those demos.

Do You think it's possible somebody could release some hacks for C=16/C=116 64K?

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

I seem to recall it was more reliable with the original 1541 drives and less so with the 1541 II's but that could have been coincidence (I thought it was just duff disk images until it eventually worked one day.)

My office is mainly full of disassembled cbm-ii's and PET's at the moment, but when moon next moves into the star sign of 264 i'll try and check if there's a pattern. happy

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

This is interesting. Thing is most likely caused by the (khm...) track loader. It never received proper testing on various machine+drive combos. I have read somewhere in a C64 forum that the length of the serial cable could be a factor in disk turbo reliability... what do you think? Could you observe some pattern on which combos it failed?

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

Shade also fails for me on some +4 / drive combinations. I seem to recall it's usually when the bloke starts dancing.

Gaia:

>Can someone confirm this odd problem with the Shade demo? I recall I did work on my plus/4 but this is the second time I hear someone complaining he had problems with it.
----------------------------
Oh no, You didn't understand me - the demo works perfectly fine on the Plus/4, if I recall.
And even I intend to test it during the weekend, on my Plus/4.

What I mean is - I wanted to make some presentation of C=264 demos on Atari XL/XE party.
This time I wanted to take C=116 64K + SidCard. I was testing a lot of demos and only several of them - including "Shade" don't work.

So seems like some rare demos (sadly - the best ones) for some reason don't work on C=116 (and supposedly C=16). I wonder why. Do they make any ROM reference?

Marcos64:

> I have the same problem with Shade on a C16+64KB.
----------------
That's what I though.
(A pity btw, as the C=16 is my next "target" to buy - the last 264 I don't have).

I think I found another demo with this 16/Plus4 problem, but I will investigate it further during the weekend.

Always nice having a new machine like when I first got a C16 back in about 2000-ish. It was like wow and you do start loading stuff up just to see it working. Everything becomes all fresh again, it's very addictive! Have fun. happy

 Re: My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

Yupp guys, the setup rulez. happy (And "Thalassa" rulez too wink ).

I found one interesting thing.
Two demos from Plus/4 don't work on C116 64K:
- Shade
- Zenith of Puberty

I wonder why. They work for some time and show more and more mess on the screen. Finally - they crash.

The "Shade" when the male start to dance".
The "Zenith" when the second "twirl" appears.
Hmmmmmmm.

Anyway, today I spent several hours with the machine wink and now I convert more files into real disks, hahahaha. wink

 My C=116 64K (YESSSSS! ;) )

OK, it came today, by post-office.
Works perfectly well. happy
The RAM extension is internal, so I have free place for the SidCard. happy

And today I sit (for several hours now, hahah) and copy C=264 programs from PC to my 1541-II with some USB device I've got from Nitro (of C64 scene).
Yesssssssssssssssss. happy

So now I need the new SID chip to my card. wink
