No, don't do that - they point you to towards the bandit!!

Juts checked it, very nice! the game remained as good as it was. Though instead of the bandit I killed few jumping kids as they look too dangerous.

Wait! Though I've checked several times, I've never seen your last post with the new signed version of the intro picture! So I quickly converted the new one too, you can easily change the original .zip file on CSDb and use that one instead. I've just uploaded the file into your dropbox.

Version 1.10 of Gunfright is now available.
Download link:
http://csdb.dk/release/index.php?id=155861
Changes:
Slowed down Bandit Draw speed slightly if you draw first, so it’s the same as the Spectrum version. (The best tactic is still to let him draw first in most cases).
The C128 versions are now both SuperCPU compatible. Many thanks to Redrumloa and Mirkosoft for testing with the SuperCPU.
New loading screen by STE. Many thanks to Luca for converting the Plus4 screen.
New front end for the C128 VDC version. More inline with the other versions.
Please note that if you play the C128 VDC version with WinVice then please turn off “Video cache” in the Video settings/VDC render box, as you might get video corruption if you don’t.

very nice title screens. I love all of them! I missed SO much those wonderful starting/loading screens from the the C16 and Plus/4 versions! (and yes, we had some nice examples too)

| Re: Gunfright for Plus4, C64 & C128
Thanks Carrion, I must say that Mariusz did an amazing job on the 6502 conversion as the Z80 versions were already very heavily optimized by some of the best Z80 game coders of the 80's and yet we have all four 6502 versions running at around the same speed as the Z80 versions and very playable.
Good news Luca, STE has told me that we can use the new loading screen in the next version! He has made a few more improvements however so you might have to do the P4 conversions again, sorry! I'll point you to the new file in a bit if you want to do it again.

carrion: heh that would be a cool idea indeed! About the pic: Ste'86 spontaneously drew the remake, then emu said it could be used for a forthcoming V1.1 release; unpretentiously, I simply tried to achieve the best conversion possible and give my very little contribution to the Plus/4 version if V1.1 will jump out

| Re: Gunfright for Plus4, C64 & C128
@rod and emu I played a bit with three versions of the game and have to say that I almost see no difference which is a good thing because shows that even on slowest C64 it may be playable. it was really fun to play the VDC version, as it's probably a first game I played in this gfx mode.
@luca did you actually convinced STE to do the loading screen? wow! I think about re-doing (or actually doing from scratch) some of the intro pics for c+4 games. time will show.

I know, I think the pic is excellent.
If he says I can use it then I'm more than happy for you to do a Plus4 conversion on the pic if you want to.

| Re: Gunfright for Plus4, C64 & C128
rod and emu: I've seen you could release a better version of Gunfright in the closer future, and Ste'86's new C64 intro bitmap drawn for it. So, if you need it, a quick candidate conversion of the latter, retouched to match the limits of Plus/4 color assigning, could be this one Ask to me if you need it.

Sounds like fun!, please report back your findings.
It's quite a difficult game to profile while playing as the speed changes based on how many sprites are in the scene which is random.
Pentagram is easier to profile and the speed differences between machines are the same as Gunfright.

| Re: Gunfright for Plus4, C64 & C128
The Z80 conversion and Atari version was done by Mariusz and I then converted his code to work on all the CBM machines.
Using the PAL C64 version as a base the Plus4 versions is around 17% faster and the C128 & Atari versions are around 27% faster. This is more or less what you would expect based on the relative speeds of each machine over 1 full game frame.

| Re: Gunfright for Plus4, C64 & C128
Great job. Two questions though: 1. is this coded by the same person who coded atari version or is it only based on atari code but finished by commodore coders? 2. did anyone made a side 2 side comparison of C64, C+4, C128, Atari and speed the game runs. on lemon64 somebody mentioned the c+4 version is in between C64 and C128 but how it compares to Atari?

Another gameplay tip...The best way to find the bandit in the game area is to follow the direction the kid points to. If he moves around a lot then the bandit is probably close by.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
Please note that the best tactic on the bandit draw screen is wait for the bandit to draw first (don't touch the controls). The DRAW!! text will turn red and you get plenty of time to plug him!
If you draw first you only get a fraction of a second to plug him!

Gunfright is now available for Plus4, C64 & C128 (Vic II & VDC).

Mariuszw has done another excellent Z80 to 6502 conversion for the Atari 800 which this is based on.
I converted the CBM versions and Saul supplied the SID sfx and music.
Both TED sound & SID Card sound versions are available.
We hope you enjoy the conversion.
