 Re: YAPE speed

Thank you for the explaining replies.

@Gaia:
Two suggestions for new release:
1) Save setting has to save the attached images info too;
2) When attach a disk-image, check if that one is already attached to another drive (in order to avoid conflicts and locks).

Thanx and have a good work (holiday?)

 Re: YAPE speed

The 1551 emulation is slower because it emulates a 2 MHz CPU unlike the 1541 where it runs at a mere 1 MHz. So the emulated drive must be clocked twice as much. For the rest the 1551 really is a simple drive: just the CPU , the 2 simple TIA's, and a counter. Especially when compared to the 1541 where you have two rather complex VIA's to deal with.

Actually changing drive type could preserve the D64, but I have been too lazy to fix that. Maybe in the next version. The two drive shares the same drive mechanics, so in theory it could preserve that part of the emulation that does the raw physical disk access.

 Re: YAPE speed

I believe that these two items are already known. I know that I have already noticed these.

1551 vs 1541: the 1551 is harder to emulate due to three major chips (6502T, 6523, 6525) versus the 1541's two chips (6502, 6526). This is why 1551 IEC mode still exists in YAPE, for those who need the speed but don't need to cycle-emulate the drive.

Anytime you change from one drive type to another (1541 -> 1581 for example), you need to F11 for the change to be fully in effect.... just as if you turned off your 1551 as device 8, and turned on your 1581 as device 8, you should press the white RESET button so that the drive and the computer can see each other.

And yes, you'll lose the .d64 that was previously attached, because changing drive types does not necessarily mean that you also moved the floppy disk from one drive to another.

 YAPE speed

Hello Attila and you all,
I write this post in order to let other users to tell their results if are the same or not with their machines.

Problem 1:
YAPE 0.67 with 1541 drive emulation works in my PC 30% faster than with 1551 drive emulation.
Was this known? Or is my machine too warm?

Problem 2:
When just changed drive emulation (i.e. from 1551 to 1541), I need to perform a reset (F11) in order to let Yape see the D64 image, even if already attached.

Thanx for your comments
