Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

Luca as long as you are happy with it, its totally ok.
I do my "lone" stuff on my blog mostly for myself, because even when i look at them after some years, i still love it. And the love for doing something is the point for me.

Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

Thank you George! The diskmag has born in 1996, in the time when the scene was practically dying, and that's why I called that way wink Have to say, it really did what it was aimed to wink

Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

Thank you, Lavina and MMS happy

Yes MMS I know you're a hardware mane grin Lone News talks in an outdated mood so here and there it could sound raw and explicit grin I also asked to myself if I would have switched to a TED tune instead of reusing some SIDsof mine, but believe me: that crap code has been developed in 1996, a time when I didn't either suspect about IRQs, to say one; hence, if I want to use it, the best choice is to retouch it as little as I can happy Several times I pondered about coding a new one, but you see, the thrust to write a new issue again comes when there's an instant and valid pushing reason (this time, the scanned lady recap), whereas a new code for it should be faced before any needing of write'n'release stuff. Years ago, Csabo also introduced me to RLE coding, looking for a possible new mag's code, and maybe I'll find motivation (or simply time to pleasurly waste) later on wink

Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

I just read Lone News 21. Congrats, it was a nice read!

It was a chilling feeling to read again a fresh discmag on the Plus/4! happy
(Club Info is also nice one with long history, unfortunately my German is not so good, so I always start it, and check the content, but usually give up after 10-15 minutes of reading, sorry Erich!).
In this case I could read every single character...

The GFX is really well made and the musics are very well selected. Especially the intro one, very well fits the theme.
Music works well and clean in TED mode too (thanks TLC!), so majority of the reading was done in TED music mode.
I hoped a new TED tune from the Top1 musician, but not all dream can come true happy

OFF
Somehow I feel addressed by the intro text happy Because I am a dreamer of special hardwares, unfortunately without the skills of Solder grin
But still loving the Plussy as it is.
(it is a kind of strange feeling, that in 1994 I could built a z80 based working computer with RAM, basic inputs and all the others (it was the task (homework) to be done in one month in the school) and now I have no clue how I could do that, just remember the draft circuit diagrams I made and rewrote 20 times happy ).

You know I just received from US my RAMLINK2 for C64: it has 16MB extreme fast (possibly battery backed) SRAM can be used as storage device (with 1541, 1571 or 1581 emulation), clock port, built in JiffyDOS, 1MB memory expansion slot, HDD connector.
So you have almost everything in one device, without opening up your fav Commodore.
I feel sad, that all those nice C64 hardwares (including the Yamaha based Sound Expander, or SuperCPU, or the PageFox DTP cartridge with extra 32KB RAM and 64ROM) were not developped for the 264 series too. When I made a small mag for my schoolmates, or created a small invitation letter, I had to switch on my C64 with GEOS, as I had no proper tools (at that time) to create them on Plus/4, although I wished I could do it.

So the more I think the more I am confident, that those 30 years old frustration make me want to show, that 264 series could done it better :-) .
and you could see with Evo Lution how great this machine could be supported by a well made HW.

Nice read! Didn't know about Solder and the SidCard. And that they had some "scanners" in the 70s is also new to me!

I was not aware that it disappeared. I have a copy (I'm used to mirror sites just for this reason) and I'll make it available on my home page for those who are interested.

Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

Heh, sometimes happens: just few votesheets have been filled, in part spontaneously and in part under my straight request happy It is just a game to play, but it shows if there's a minimum of interest or absolutely not, and sometimes one must surrend to reality: more "users" trying to mutate their original Plus/4 into weird Frankensteins, less "sceners" who like demos hacks and mags...

I've thought that a new issue of Lone News would have been well supported by an interesting story like the famous "face of a woman" as a pure excuse, and I was probably mostly wrong grin

Anyway, this is a *bump* for the request. This is a call for votes: fill a votesheet and send it to me (.doc and email just as above, as you know) just to feel yourself like it was 1990 wink Let's give it a try again.

Hey you forum crawler, I am now writing the articles, doing my own duty. So, do yours: YOU MUST FILL (even partially if you want to) A VOTESHEET and send it to me, now! happy

Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

Thank you so much, George and gerliczer. gerliczer, yours is the very first votesheet i got for issue 21! just like it was 1994, votesheets are the real fuel for a diskmag wink
I picked up this chance to add a votesheets counter in the first post of this thread, which will be also used as a depository for the pictures involved in the relative magazine's article.

Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

Thank you MMS happy
The release of various diskmagazines continued nowadays although there's no competition with the easiness and speed you can get news from the internet, just because they're used to "put down" arguments in a less volatile environment. Moreover, it's still an oldschool-ish fascinating way to write down certain articles which must be pinned and assessed that way, just like the case of the "face of a woman" history (which basically is an obvious excuse for releasing the issue 21 wink ).
If the scene would have been larger than this, probably I would get more changes to do that, hence a real working code for the mag would have been a desirable must, but at the current rhythm...well, welcome back irq-lacking spaghetti code from 1996 happy
Just to say one: the interview I'm gonna publish into issue 21 is 11 years old! 11 years! The other I do have stored too is "just" 7 years old :/

Chronos, MMS, the first action you can do to contribute is: voting! wink

Re: [Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

I am interested in a new mag! If I could somehow contribute, let me know, I will do it.
BTW do not mind to rewrite the code.
a) I liked the previous onces what that code too
b) we are all retro fans, so no need to break down those 21 years old walls happy
maybe we even prefer oldschool stuff...

[Lone News] Issue 21's call for votes

I tried so many times to collect some interesting articles worth to push for a new diskmag issue, but got no luck following several good pathways which lead me to no accomplishment in the end. But now I have a story to write down in a much tangible way than the internet, thanks to Bill Atkinson's answer about his role behind the famous "face of a woman" case.
So, now we have an excuse to vote like it was 1994 happy And after tested some online resources, I realized that the best way to build up an oldschool chart is...the classic one grin

Feel the chills of the classic Lone News charts in its 21st issue! Download a votesheet in .doc format, edit it to fully or partially fill it and send it back via email, uploader ("Upload a file to Plus/4 World staff") or Messenger.

Of course, the best choice would have been to code a decent new diskmag, to beat down all the limitations of that 21 years old spaghetti bunch, with proper loading system per article, extensive readability, useful options and more. But I still see no motivation to do that, and this means you'll get the crap stuff as ever wink
Dunno how much time it will take to write down all that text and create/edit/link/pack the whole stuff, but, as it's been ever and ever, the more sheets I collect the faster the release will be wink
