I wrote a detokenizer for it a while back (just looked it up: in November 2012). From my code (Delphi) it looks like it just stored the characters on 6 bits, so 4 chars on 3 bytes.
It was part of the effort to create a complete solution, with a full list of all mushrooms and their images (so they can be easily identified from a table). One of those projects that just fell off them map after a while
