From a commercial point of view the top 3 supporter who released more good than bad were Mastertronic , Gremlin Graphics & Anirog who later changed the name to Anco. There are others of course but these were the big 3 of the day.
Going through the covers can point you in the direction of companies you may already know, and even games from say C64/Vic20 you've played before. Some are better, some not so... Most commercial games were made to run on C16 so many are only 12K, some games will reflect that limitation, others will blow you away such as Tom Thumb.
