Yes, but 6502 is much better than both. CBM produced it without major modification during almost 20 years! 6502 was the revolution which CBM stopped and sold for low price.  z80 is only one evolution step from 8080. BTW 8080 was the base of hundreds thousands of SU home made microcomputers - z80 and 6502 were too difficult for SU chip industry.
IMHO it was the big stupidity or the good conspiracy with 8-bit computer development. Sinclair overran himself with QL, Commodore ignored c64/+4/128 development, Acorn was confused with US speculators, ... What if C65 appeared at 1987?... And C+5 at 1988?
