About that 256k Plus/4: it was something, I have never seen before. This machine was upgraded by a German (or Austrian) company and on the start screen the amount of the free bytes reflected almost all the 256k. (The message was static, though.)

We (with BSZ) were trying to find out whether it has some hacked BASIC implementation, which is able to handle the 256k RAM. But after allocating a large-enough array the second allocation was failed, so it seemed this machine might also cooperating with special software only.
