The format:
3 values per color,
4 color per line,
ordered by luminance then color code.
(first entry of first line is luminance 0, color 0, last entry of first line is luminance 0, color 3)
So you can see the same values for black in the beginning of every 4th line.
(BTW I can remember that on my friends black and green monochrome monitor we were able to see the difference between the shades of black.)
