 Disk Drive users, any advice?

I have just a few DS-DD 5.25" diskettes left, but I have a large quantity of DS-HD 5.25" diskettes.

Standard 1541 or 1571 formatting on these HD diskettes causes a "Bad Disk" error.

Sometime in the past I had instructions on how to fool the 1541 to go ahead and format a high-density diskette in standard Commodore mode. However, those instructions are long since lost.

Does anyone else out there know what I'm talking about, and remember how to do this?

 Maxell

Well, I've not found anything in HTML format, but there's a PDF file here:

http://www.maxell-data.com/prods/pdfs/floppy.pdf

which is actually listing 5.25" DS-DD floppies...

 Maybe a solution...

I've faced the problem a while back when I tried to reuse my old PC HD disks on the good old 1541... with no luck, of course.

Apparently, Imation still seems to be supporting the 5.25" DS-DD diskette type (see URL):

http://www.imation.com/en_US/products/product_family_generic_1.jhtml?Id=IM_FAM120

I've heard the same about Maxell, but I couldn't find anything to prove that.

Hope this helped
