It wasn't exactly come thru (at least for me): do you store prerotated sprites? Is it "dynamic"? (I mean only those are stored which are on the screen actually.) Because if it was not "dynamic" you could save a lot of memory with this. As soon as a sprite is about to show up on the screen you could generate its prerotated states, when it disappears the slots can be free'd. (Yes, it needs a bit managing code, but I guess it wouldn't be as hard to implement, neither it would take much processor time.)
