You surely nailed it. For me the retro feeling/nostalgia is of course a very important factor but maybe the most important is to widen my knowledge. The best platform for it is an old 8 bit computer because of its limitations and creating some kind of a digital art while learning about math and coding is satisfactory. You need to optimize, no room for overheads and bad code if you want to do something proper. Also, working together with similarly minded individuals, musicians, graphicians and coders, all kinds of talents and creating something together is a unique feeling that gives a resting space in our everyday lives.
